Ride guidelines

Everything you need to know before joining a frame. ride. Read this once, ride with confidence every Sunday.

Hand signals & callouts

We communicate with hand signals and callouts. Not comfortable taking a hand off the bars? Just shout instead, that's fine. Always pass every signal back through the group.

Signals

  • Fist up - stopping.

  • Hand pushing down rapidly on the side - slowing down.

  • Point at obstacle (and shout) - hazard on the road. Move around it.

  • Wave behind your back(and shout) (toward the opposite side) - overtaking someone or something. Move to the indicated side.

  • Arm out left or right (and shout) - we're turning. Extend your arm in the direction of the turn. Everyone with a bike computer should know the route, but for clarity the leader also makes this move.

Callouts

  • "Voor / Front!" - We are going to pass someone or something.

  • "Achter / Behind!" - someone is overtaking us from behind.

  • "Tegen!" - someone coming from the opposite direction

  • "Paaltje!" - Hazard (pole / hole) on the road.

  • "Auto / Car!" - car approaching. Combined with: "Auto achter", "Auto tegen!"

  • "Single!" - road narrows or oncoming traffic. Single file.

Every ride we ask if everything is clear, so feel free to ask questions before the ride.

  • Ride predictably - no sudden braking, swerving, or surprise moves.

  • Regroup after traffic lights - if the group gets split by a red light, the front waits. Never run a red to catch up.
